Firing Your Boss, PRICELESS

By Rasheed Balogun

Furry Creek Golf & Country Club, a golfer’s paridise nestled between Vancouver and Whistler has its perks as an employee. No flickering computer screens, no buildings full of cubicals, no florenent lights and no office doors. Instead the employees enjoy breathe-taking views while surrounded by both mountains & ocean. With such a great atmosphere why would anyone quit working there?

I’ll tell you why! Because it’s still just a J.O.B. Just Over Broke or a Jerk Of a Boss, the latter being my case! I first started working there because I was new to the town and figured it would be a easy job that I could go to and meet new people. Plus the free golf was another added benefit for working there. And it was easy…for the most part I was out on the course setting the tee blocks and the pins.

Then one day the Super-Attendant (just a fancy title for ‘boss’) tells me that I’m on ‘brush’ duties on hole 8 and 9. I later discover that brush duties means landscaping just on a much larger scale and that we lack the tools that any sane man would take with him while undertaking a take like this.

Now brush duties is not a day-to-day duty. After some thought, I realize that they (Furry Creek) would save loads of money by getting their employees to clear a section of the forest instead of hiring professional landscapers to do the job.

At this point, I’m thinking…Furry Creek is trying to get cheap labour; they don’t have the proper tools; I have a very young child at home and I’m not going to bust my back (want to be able to lift my daughter) for them!

Let me just add this: my family when away for a two week vacation and during this time I put in extra hours and had them banked.

So I ask the Super-Attendant if I could use some banked hours instead of preforming the brush duties and his reply is, “If you want to go home you can stay there! We all have jobs we don’t like, but we do them because we have to.”

I simply told him that I’m not like everybody else and I don’t need this job and left!

Working at Furry Creek $12-15/hrs; Boss’ face when you fire him, PRICELESS

I don’t do jobs that I don’t have to and if a duty needs to be done that I’d rather not do…I’ll outsource it to someone else. I’m so glad I’ve decided to learn Internet Marketing strategies and have my own business that makes me money even if I’m not around! I’m not a multi-millionaire nor do I need to be to have this type of freedom!

Oh and by the way…I was unaware at the time, but I earned just under $200 that day from my business while I was not even at my computer!
